Because the natural movement of the soil, caused by expansion and shrinkage of clay due to variable water content, most home foundations will eventually crack due to stress. The Roberts’ family home in San Antonio was built around the turn of the 20th century, and much of the foundation was original or had been patched a long time ago. The home itself had suffered serious structural damage and was clearly slanted.
